While there are some universal principles when it comes to successfully selling a home, every housing market throughout the U.S. has its own unique set of circumstances. Chicago is no different.
Over at the Chicago Neighborhood and City Guide, they addressed this topic in a recent blog post. It’s worth sharing some of the tips for selling your Chicago home that they listed.
A successful home sale all starts with first impressions. You want to provide a glimpse to the potential buyer of what it would be like live in the home. To do this, it’s the little things that count. It doesn’t take a complete renovation. Rather, it’s the little things that often count the most. Start by taking a visual inventory of any needed repairs or upgrades. You might want to enlist an objective observer, like your real estate agent, to make sure nothing is missed.
A small investment of time and money can pay off big-time when it’s time to sell.
This all part of the notion of sellers being prepared when it comes time to show their home. Further preparations would include cleaning your home “as if you were having a party,” according to Chicago Neighborhood. You also want to create a nice atmosphere and, as noted, fix any flaws in the home.
When showing your home, there are a few do’s and don’ts you will want to follow. These include eliminating any potential distractions, remaining in the background during the showing, and letting your agent do all the scheduling of showings.
Obviously there is still much more to consider when selling a home, but by following these few basic steps you will be well on your way to a successful transaction.
