Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959) is one of the most acclaimed and well-known architects in U.S. history. For more than a century now, his designs have dotted the landscape of Chicago, the city where he started his career and first gained accolades.
Wright and his self-described style of “organic architecture” has gained legions of fans and followers over the decades. If you’re one those, this is an exciting time—there are currently THREE opportunities in Chicago to own a home designed by the great Frank Lloyd Wright.
According to Curbed Chicago, the William Winslow House in River Forest, George Madison Millard House in Highland Park and F.B. Henderson House in Elmhurst are all currently on the market.
The Henderson House is the latest to be put up for sale. Built in 1901, the Henderson House is considered a prime example of Wright’s early “Prairie-style architecture.” It features 80 art glass windows, original built-ins, maple floors and three brick fireplaces. The Henderson House is available for $995,000.
The Winslow House has been on the market for a few weeks and recently had its asking price slashed by $200,000 to $1.55 million. It was built in 1893 and is considered a Wright masterpiece.
The Winslow House is also noteworthy because it was Wright’s first totally independent commission, according to Curbed Chicago.His previously work was done as part of the Chicago-based architectural firms Silsbee and Adler & Sullivan.
Finally, the Millard House is on the market with a list price of $799,000. Built in 1906, the “architecturally significant” home has four bedrooms and sit on a 0.66 acre lot. Among its array of designer touches are 68 original art glass windows, according to Curbed Chicago.
